Hi Everyone! Up for sale on consignment is this 1976 FJ40. This one has seen the shop (we worked on it a couple times for the previous owner years back) but now it's located in Tennessee. The exterior has been refinished, but the interior remains virtually untouched. It's a very presentable and drivable model that is largely still original, and ready for a new home! Please read the owner's thorough description below and contact us at any time with interest. Asking price is $47,500       1976 FJ40 Land Cruiser Hardtop – U.S. Model; Mostly Original and Rust Free This vintage United States model FJ40 has only 60,820 original miles on its original 2F engine/4 speed tranny and is in very good condition. It runs and shifts nicely, and remains in mostly original condition, with the only modifications being the addition of power steering, 2.5” lift kit, and a properly installed SS auxiliary fuel tank. All mechanical & electrical components work properly, including the original rear heater. The exterior was repainted Cygnas White 012 (original was 031 White) approximately 15 years ago. Paint still looks nice but with some minor chips and touch ups (mostly related to removal/re-install of hard top). The interior has never been painted or touched up which preserves its history and shows it has not been abused. So attractive on the outside and a time capsule inside. The bed and front deck have been spray coated but are solid and not rusted. No modifications have been made other than reupholstering of the original front seats and replacement of the original center console (included with vehicle) with the popular, more functional lockable Tuffy version. Even the headliner is original and in good condition, although with a couple of minor sags. The majority of hoses, fuel lines, etc., have been replaced, as well as a few other items/parts (originals were retained and will be included). The original owner purchased this American bi-centennial 1976 FJ40 in Alaska (original color was white, with thin red and blue striping; pic available) and soon after moved to Montrose, CO. The owner kept a record of all service done work until it had 21,073 miles in 1990 (included). He later willed it to a local police officer, who seldom drove it and kept it stored under his mother’s carport until his passing. His mother posted it on the internet in 2002, when it was purchased with an odometer reading of around 33,000 miles. It was in stock condition at that time. The 3 rd owner also lived in Montrose (moved to New Mexico for a short time, then back to Montrose) and used it for his mountain hobbies (was a geologist). He kept detailed records of all service work and modifications, most of which he did with the help of a mechanic friend who has a 1977 FJ40. He always kept it garaged, and it has never been used for anything other than errands and on paved or designated rustic trails, averaging less than 1,500 miles per year. The 4 th owner purchased the vehicle 3.5 years ago with 59,000 original miles and has always stored it in his attached Knoxville, TN garage. The FJ has not been taken offroad and has only been used as a collectable vehicle for weekend pleasure drives in the Smoky Mountain area. Other than replacing all 5 tires (close to identical size), numerous hoses, fuel lines, seals, bolts, etc, the only modifications have been to have a body shop powder coat the bezel, bumper, and bumperettes, as well as install a matching fuel door for the auxiliary gas tank. The owner removed, painted, and installed a fuel sending unit in the aux tank, as well as installed an under the dash (using an existing bolt location) fuel gauge. The owner also drained/replaced the differential and transmission fluids with Amsoil products (also used Amsoil synthetic oil), and annually sprayed the undercarriage and other areas with a rust prevention spray in order to maintain the virtually rust free condition. The following is a list of the original and added equipment:  2F motor and drivetrain, including four speed transmission and two speed transfer case. Shifts very well and including in and out of 2 wd, 4W High & 4W Low.  Original upper & tub as evident by properly visible weld lines  Interior is all original with near perfect rear jump seats, tool kit, jack, AM radio (still works!) works!), rear floor mat, head liner, marketing flyer/brochure, owner’s manual, 2F motor manual, shop manual, etc.  2 1/2” lift kit with HD shocks  newer muffler  auxiliary fuel tank (newly painted)  new OEM powder coated wheels & hubcaps and newly painted original bumper, bumperettes, and front bezel)  5 new Toyo Open Country 30x9.5x15 A/T tires (3 years old with 2,000 miles)  Power steering (added by 3rd owner)  Power front disc brakes  Warn winch with remote (10K lbs); tested & works well but not connected to battery  re-upholstered front seats, new dash cover  repainted in 2008 (body on)  Bestop bikini top  Tuffy lockable center console  newer passenger and driver's doors window felt  Stainless steel bolts in most locations (still have original bolts)  new LED headlights and dash lights (still have working originals  new hardtop weatherstripping/seal  New Interstate AGM battery & cables, with inserted kill switch. Only known issues:  dome light night working  light radius scratch on windshield (tracking wiper path (possible to buff out?)  minimal fluid leaks  poorly applied undercoating applied upon seller’s purchase (have pics showing excellent condition undercarriage prior to purchase, but apparently not prepped properly as per overspray areas and some subsequent flaking.. Recent (3/2020) mechanical work done by Proffitt's Resurrection Land Cruisers in Delta, Colorado includes thorough motor and carburetor tune up with rebuilt front end and new locking hubs. All new weatherstripping, belts, alignment and brakes. Videos available upon request.
